Kampar that I know

The old Kampar used to be a busy town. I remember in the days before the highway, those going up north will have to pass through a few towns. One of them was Kampar. It was one of the bigger towns along the route. Passing through it was a hassle, having to go through many traffic lights. Once the highway was built, Kampar passed into oblivion until somebody decided to build a big university campus nearby. Thus the new Kampar was born, driven by the new university. Local businesses and housing estates thrive around this new place, just a few kilometres away from the old Kampar. As for the old Kampar, empty prewar shop houses still line what used to be the main street. It won't be long before they too will go.
