Quran, the final revelation

Ramadhan is also known as the month of the Quran because this is the month when God first revealed the Quran. Unfortunately, I dare say there are many who are still unable to read the Quran properly. They will struggle and stutter and read like a child from kinder garden. If I ask the next question, how many have read the Quran and know what its saying, the number will be even worse. The next question... how many have read the Quran, know what its saying, understand the meaning, the reason(s) for the revelation, the stories behind the verse, the rules that can be derived from it and so on? Answer it to yourself!

The Long Weekend

There are thousand and one things I want to do during this long weekend. Repaint the front wall, change the bulbs at the front porch, rearrange the books in the hall, repair the deck, varnish the rattan chairs, change the garden chairs, put manure to the flowers, trim the trees etc. etc. Wonder if I can do them all?

Chong Wei just got beaten

I came back from the mosque just in time to see Chong Wei knocked out of the World Badminton championship in Paris. Looks like our title drought is going to continue. If Chong Wei cannot do it, who can? None of the present youngsters that we have are good enough! They have struggled at the senior level to make an impact.

Seventeen days and counting

We are already seventeen days into Ramadhan and it all seem like going so fast. Its showing in the mosque when the crowd is getting to be smaller and smaller. That's an unmistakable sign that we are well into Ramadhan while Shawal is just round the corner. Year in year out its the same old story. Just hope that I can last until the last day of Ramadhan.

US Housing woes again

US housing market has just gotten worse again. The moment the government incentives are taken away, the market struggled. Meanwhile unemployment has remain stubborn. Despite all the best government efforts, the number of unemployed remain high. As a result, stock markets worldwide has taken a tumble. Only locally we are seeing some positives. The question is... will it last?

Being computer illiterate

I have been having problems with the computer lately. Every time I clicked on the mouse, there was nothing. I had to click many times before it will work. Being computer illiterate, the first thought that came to my mind was that something must be wrong with the computer. Until one day I got smarter and decided to try another mouse and...... Eureka! It worked straightaway! All this while I was suffering and all it needed was just a new mouse......sigh

Remembering Ramadhan

When I was small, my brothers and I would follow our father to the mosque during Ramadhan. Although the mosque is quite a distance away, we would go by foot as we don't have a car. After the prayers, ended, we would enjoy the food prepared by the mosque and later would join in the 'Tadarus' group, i.e. reading the Quran. This would usually go late into the night. I remember walking home and always worry about one house that we had to pass because the house have fierce dogs. This would be my routine during Ramadhan. Off course things are a lot different now. For one, I drive to the mosque although its just two stones throw away.

Ramadhan moves on

Ten days of ramadhan has come and gone. Today we are in the eleventh day. The television are full of Ramadhan stories, documentary or otherwise but the funny thing is, I hardly have time to watch them. The days are taken up by work while the nights are spend at the mosque. On most nights, it will be almost half past ten before I'm back at home. By then I'm too tired and just wanting to be in bed to get ready for tomorrow. Even the internet will have to take a back seat for the time being!

Just thinking aloud

The computer suddenly goes blank. Apparently the screen is kaput. What a time to happen! Now I need to buy a new screen to go with all the raya necessities that will definitely come in the days ahead. The traditional malay dress or the 'baju melayu' these days are not cheap. RM 50 will get you just the dress. RM 150 will get you the complete package but of inferior quality. A good one will make you poorer by almost RM 250. Come to think of it..... every year we buy one and wear it once for the occasion but after that we hardly ever touch it! Isn't it a waste?

Rain rain go away!

View from my room. Patches of water almost flooding the whole field.

Front view. Heavy rain since afternoon. Very sure there will be terrible jams all over KL. Lucky thing I'm on on leave. Had to attend to some urgent family business.

A reminder for everybody

Water was dripping from the air conditioner onto the floor in my room. I called the repairman and he did the repair. The water didn't drip onto the floor in my room anymore and I thought everything was ok. Little did I know that all he did was to transfer the dripping to the wall outside my room. Months later, I noticed the wall paper in my room peeling off. Only then did I realised what he had done! Moral of the story....check thoroughly before paying them.

Rain and Ramadhan

The rainy season is back. It rained day before yesterday. Yesterday it rained. Today its raining again. As far as I can recall, it always rain during Ramadhan. Years back I remember wondering about the plight of the stalls that sprout out during Ramadhan. Their sales must be affected because of the rain. Don't know how long this rainy time will last.

How nice to be sacked!

Can you imagine being paid RM 150 million and then asked to leave your job? That's what is happening to a CEO in the US. Sacked football managers are also paid millions of dollars. How nice it is to be sacked. Give me just a million ringgit and I'm willing to be sacked anytime! No....on second thought, make it two million!

Ramadhan oh Ramadhan

So fast we are already on the fifth day of Ramadhan. For the record, last night we had four Imams to lead us during Isya, Tarawih and Witir prayers. That's something I never experienced before! Nowadays, there are many variations of the Tarawih prayers. Doing eight or twenty rakaat has long been a bone of contention. Our mosque decides to add a Tazkirah in between while doing twenty. There are others that do just eight with a Tazkirah. Then there are others that do away with the zikir in between. There are many other variations too many to write about. Whatever it is, Ramadhan is definitely a special month, unlike any other.

Heavy rain

Almost missed my Friday prayer this afternoon because of the rain. Luckily a friend came by with an umbrella and we made it to the mosque. It was half empty. Must be the rain.

Maintaining the car

My car was making funny sound recently. At first it was just a little bit of squeaking here and there but it got louder and louder as the days go by. Finally it got so loud that I was certain people from miles away could hear it. I went to the workshop and was told its the ball joints. Had to change the whole lot and now its silence again.

Beyond me

I have been looking through some property magazines and what I'm seeing is really astonishing... for me at least. Some houses are being rented out at twenty thousand or more. I just cannot imagine why anyone would want to rent a house for that amount. If you can pay that much monthly, might as well buy one. The there was this condo that was sold for about thirty million ringgit. Wow!

Its Ramadhan allright

When the mosques are filled to the brim for the evening prayers, it can only mean one thing! Ramadhan is back. Ramadhan is such a special month that even those who don't normally go to the mosques will somehow find their way there. If only it can be like this every day of every month.....

Taxi woes

A trip on a taxi from Medan Maju Jaya off Jalan Klang Lama to Bangsar cost twelve ringgit. A trip on a taxi from Bangsar to Medan Maju Jaya off Jalan Klang Lama cost six ringgit. How come? A one hundred per cent discrepancy on the same route. Only difference is one is going the opposite way of the other. I'm baffled!

Ramadhan karim

I had my last jogging session last Wednesday. On Saturday I played futsal. That was my last sporting activity before taking a break for Ramadhan. As always, I hope Ramadhan this time will be better than the last Insha Allah.

Its a familiar Saturday once more!

The football season in Europe is back. With the charity shield to be played later tonight in England plus the European Champions League preliminaries already underway, its going to be a familiar Saturday again. Who will win this time? I always fancy Arsenal with their youngsters but I have heard it too many times already. They are still to mature or is this going to be the season?

Veteran of the veterans

Last Saturday I was involved in a futsal tournament. It need not be said that I played in the veteran category but what I discovered on that day was that even among the veterans, I was easily the king! .... I mean the oldest. I guess people my age don't play futsal or football anymore. Anyway, I had fun and wish there are more of such tournaments. Just need to be careful and no my limit.

How RM 40 disappeared from my Tand G card

A strange thing happened on my way to work this morning. At the Damansara toll, I punched my Touch and Go. At first it read ' tak sah'. I punched again and this time it showed RM 40 when actually it should show RM 1.40. I didn't really understand what was happening then. I was also in a hurry and therefore just drove on. It was only later that I realised what really happened. RM 40 was taken away from my card when it should really be just RM 1.40. Not really sure now how to claim it back.

A new car park in town

I saw this car park while in PJ new town recently. Three storey high but the beautiful thing is you only have to drive into the car park at the ground level. Your car will then be moved to its rightful place by the mechanism within the car park. Very interesting.

Ramadhan Karim

Another month is gone and another is starting. Soon the holy month of Ramadhan will be back to bring joy to Muslims the world over. Ramadhan is a month to savor, a month to strengthen our faith, a month to recharge the batteries and become better Muslims. Don't let Ramadhan passed us by just like that. Instead, let this Ramadhan be better than the last, God willing.
