A false centre forward?

So Spain is champion again, playing without a recognised centre forward at that. They played with a false centre forward in the shape of Fabregas, who is basically a midfielder. I don't know why they call it a false centre forward. Looking at it from a layman point of view, it is just a midfielder playing in the centre forward position. Maybe Fabregas role was a bit different from that of a true centre forward. He had to play some midfielder role as well. That's why they call it the false centre forward. Whatever it was, it certainly is a new term coined during this Euro. And whatever it was, it was certainly a successful experiment.
