Been reading a lot on the history of Kuala Lumpur lately. Found them to be quite interesting. Until today, the real founder of Kuala Lumpur cannot be established. Most history books will say Yap Ah Loy. That's what I learned in school as well but he was only the third Kapitan Cina. What about the first and the second Kapitan? It cannot be denied however that Yap Ah Loy played a prominent role in the development and growth of Kuala Lumpur. He built up the city after it was destroyed by flood and fire in 1881. Meantime there are other notable names associated with the founding of Kuala Lumpur. Raja Abdullah for one. Sutan Puasa is another. Who among the three have the most legitimate claim as the founder of Kuala Lumpur?
