Kampung atmosphere

In Gombak I get involve in society more, at least within my neighbourhood. For example today a neighbour a few doors away is having a do after the zhuhur prayers. 'Akikah' for his grandchildren. Later in the day, after the Maghrib prayers there's an ustaz giving a talk at the local surau. Then, after the Isya prayers, another nearby neighbour is having a 'tahlil' for their father who passed away recently. Add to it my role as the Imam plus the monthly talk that I give at the surau, it sure makes for a busy involvement. Its a far cry from when I was living in Ceras. Then I was not involve at all. I go to the mosque for my prayers and come back. That's all. Maybe its because the 'kampung' atmosphere still exist at where I live in Gombak.

This morning

Akid woke up early this morning. I was just preparing to go to work. Normally he would still be sleeping at this time. Nowadays, he talks non stop, asks a lot of questions as kids his age would do. Soon , he will be having another little sister.

Free for all

The fighting in Syria is getting from bad to ridiculous. There are so many parties fighting in the region I am lost as to who is which, who is with whom and who is fighting whom. Even the big powers are joining in like America and Russia. Then there's Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and a host of other Arabic countries. Don't ask me about the numerous other groups fighting under their own banner. There are hundreds of them. I would think even they are lost as to whom they are fighting. Its a free for all.

Second time

In a few months I will be joining the ranks of the retired once again. I was retired in 2011 at the age of fifty five. I chose to retire because I was tired of working. Wanted to relax and unwind, do different things while enjoying the freedom of a retiree. In 2013 I worked again. Don't know why but when I was offered a job I took it. Today, three years later, I am still at the job because after two years of break, I find working enjoyable again. Nonetheless, I will reach sixty years old in early July, the mandatory retirement age. I will have to retire as told by my employer. I want to continue working but that's the way it is. So, I might be hunting for a job in a few months times. Sigh…….

Will decide soon

Been busy in Bakun since I arrived Sunday night. It was 9pm when we left Bintulu airport heading for Bakun having just arrived from KL earlier. By the time we reached Bakun, it was 11.30pm. On Monday and today, was busy with meetings morning and afternoon. Only now I have a moment to myself, hence the blog updating. Tomorrow in sha Allah will travel back to KL. My wife is expecting in a few weeks so I don't want to travel anymore after this. Want to be around when my seventh child come into being. However, Looks like Miri is waiting at the end of the month. I am in two minds whether to go to not. Will decide soon.

That's what I will do

Last night I gave another 'ceramah' at the surau in between the Maghrib and Isya prayers. Its my fourth time. Alhamdulillah, this time it went quite well. I am satisfied with my performance although as always there are rooms for improvement. For one thing, I need to improve on my knowledge. It has been a long time since I was reading prolifically books on Islam. At one time, I was reading three books at one go. My knowledge was at its peak then. Now they are distant memories. At the moment, I believe I can remember less than half of what I have read and learn. Therefore, I need to improve on my knowledge in order to be able to give a convincing talk. That's what I will do!

We will see

Its been more than a year since we moved to Gombak. The house and the village we live in is ok although in the beginning I was a bit apprehensive. For one thing it is near my office so going and coming to the office is not so taxing. The shops are nearby making it very convenient. There are mosques and suraus every few metres along the main road as well as in the villages. In fact the surau that I frequent is a short walk away from the house. That's the main plus thing. I have always wanted a house near a surau. Now I have one although it is rental. It is great. I can live here forever but I think someday we will have to move on again. It depends on how it is with my work. We will see in July.
